Our story
 

NewTech&Us was founded by Imane Hmiddou in September 2026 after she witnessed the growing urgency of AI literacy worldwide, the increasing risks associated with AI systems, and the lack of effective mitigation measures and benchmarks, particularly for agentic AI systems. This observation was compounded by the recognized need for interdisciplinary collaboration to thoroughly assess AI risks and to design, develop, evaluate, and test AI in a trustworthy way. Over seven years, Imane gathered empirical insights while working in AI governance alongside startups, think tanks, research centers, EU projects, the AI office, National Competent Authorities, and academia. What began as a personal observation and professional commitment evolved into a vital initiative: a space where technology is analyzed not only as an engineering challenge but also as an economic, political, social, legal, and ethical issue.

Our mission
 

We work through dissemination and dialogue. Sharing knowledge in plain language and opening space for genuine conversation. We believe governing new technologies shouldn't be left to a handful of institutions and labs - it should be a bottom-up process, built on deliberation, shared knowledge, and real participation from the people these technologies affect.
 

How we think about literacy
 

Understanding a technology only from a technical angle hides everything else it touches. Our approach is interdisciplinary by design, built around six components: knowledge of how these systems actually work, the evaluation skills to judge their implications critically, collaboration between people and institutions, contextualization within culture and place, the autonomy to make informed choices, and a grounding in ethics.
 

What we do
 

Through educational videos, articles, and a platform to discover external evaluators, we simplify the technical, legal, and ethical dimensions of AI and new tech for a general audience, and we hope to build a community that informs practice and policy through structured learning from each collaboration and structured meetings. Our work aligns with international frameworks, including UNESCO's Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, the AI Act, and the G20 AI Guidelines.
